“Hi, I’m Robert Bell.”
Like many others who have come to call Norwich home, Robert Bell was born elsewhere.
Born and raised in Irving, Texas, he joined the Navy in 2001, becoming a radioman and periscope repairman on fast attack submarines during his six years of service. Despite a strong desire to continue to serve his country, he developed obstructive sleep apnea. This condition disqualified him from continuing his Naval career.
Instead of returning to Texas, Mr. Bell remained in Connecticut, choosing to make a home for himself here. Over the next several years, he worked for Sikorsky, based in Stratford, Connecticut, building Black Hawk and Medevac helicopters.
The breakdown of his marriage during this time made him accutely aware of the struggles men face in protecting their parental rights. In 2014, after a lengthy divorce, he gained sole custody of his daughter, with whom he lives in Norwich.
Despite the challenges of single parenting, he continued to pursue his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies, as well as becoming licensed to practice real estate in Connecticut.
Upon receiving his real estate license, he created his own property management company, which he continues to manage today.
Robert Bell is an avid supporter of Norwich business, spending 90% of the money he earns at local businesses.
Having navigated difficulties in his personal life, he sees a bright future for Norwich and wants to do more for his community.
For too long, Norwich has been forgotten by Hartford and its own representatives. Mr. Bell pledges to give the City of Norwich real representation in Hartford.
